Good Morning Rnd91,
Here is the news affecting the markets this morning and what to look forward to in the week ahead.
Oil and related companies are trading lower into the morning after Trump announced that he halted planned Iran strikes. After a period of relative quiet on the oil front, we had a large push up over the past two weeks which is leaving the door open to a lot of volatility on news reactions. Oil futures are currently trading down 7.5% after peaking at $93.50 last week. Major oil companies including Exxon ($XOM) and Chevron ($CVX) will announce earnings on Friday.
China memory chip company CXMT IPO’d this weekend to a whopping 466% gain becoming China’s highest value listed company instantly. The huge surge shows that memory stocks interest is still garnering attention, but starting to move at unprecedented rates as well. Semiconductor stocks have started monthly consolidation on the US side following the $KOSPI volatility discussed in our last newsletter.
Federal Reserve Rate Decision: FOMC rate decision 2:00pm EST on Wednesday will be the major financial mover in the markets this week. While it is widely expected for rates to remain the same, surging oil prices is putting a little bit of pressure on a possible rate increase.
Additionally, the Bank of England and Bank of Japan will announce their rate decisions on Thursday and Friday.
Big Tech Earnings for this week remain in strong focus as Microsoft ($MSFT), $META, Apple ($AAPL) and Amazon ($AMZN) announce earnings mid week.
All in all between the large percentage moves in oil, heavy hitter earnings reports and FOMC, there is room for a lot of volatility in both indices and individual stocks this week.
